This illustration depicts the difference between simple, linear speciation and exponential speciation. Effectively, exponential speciation produces new species at a much faster rate. Therefore, in order to be fair to evolutionary theory, our calculations investigating the time requirements and probabilities surrounding the prospect of speciation by beneficial mutation have utilized an exponential model.
